About us

Trout Unlimited Canada is a registered Canadian charitable organization and has been improving the lives and health of Canadians for over 50 years. A leader in water and fisheries protection, TUC’s renowned professional staff works with volunteers and partners to protect natural spaces and improve Canadian resources. Science based and volunteer driven, Trout Unlimited Canada puts more work on the ground than any other national fresh water conservation organization.  Our highly trained staff support a network of volunteers across Canada operating through Trout Unlimited Canada volunteer chapters, from PEI to Vancouver Island.

“Water is for everyone, not just Trout!”

Our Mission

To conserve, protect and restore Canada’s freshwater ecosystems and their coldwater resources for current and future generations. All of the work Trout Unlimited Canada does is directed toward achieving this mission. Our work is guided by science and research and fueled by the unending passion of our volunteers and professional staff

Our Chapters

Trout Unlimited Canada’s full-time staff administers the day-to day activities of the organization, and provides professional and scientific support to its volunteer-driven chapters across the country.

Our chapters and volunteers are action-oriented and are involved in conservation education, stream rehabilitation, habitat restoration and habitat protection across Canada. We develop projects and programs that focus on the relationship between land, water, shorelines, river valleys and the communities that live near these natural features.

How to
Participate

Canadians are enjoying local wild spaces more this year than ever before. This also means more garbage, more degradation, and more pressure on Canada’s fisheries. Everyone has an impact, no matter how light their footprint. Help us educate, protect and rehabilitate Canada’s wild spaces.

Our Work is Guided by Four Main Conservation Themes:

Water Quality

All organisms require a reasonable supply of clean water to maintain their life cycles.  Coldwater organisms are extremely sensitive to poor water quality and are therefore good indicators of the relative quality of water for other organisms, including people.

Water Quantity

In aquatic systems the need for water quantity varies by species, process, season, and water quality.  While minimum flows are required for basic ecosystem function, diverse and changing flows are also needed for ecosystem diversity, stability, and longevity.

Habitat

The physical structure of a river, lake or stream creates the basis for aquatic habitat and can often impact local water quality.  A healthy balanced ecosystem requires a dynamic and healthy structure to ensure adequate habitat for aquatic life.

Aquatic Community

Native aquatic communities comprising invertebrates, fish, and other aquatic species are essential to the health and biodiversity of Canada and the well-being of Canadians.  Healthy aquatic communities are an expression of the health and resiliency of their local watersheds

Reconnection

We are strongly committed in our mission to reconnect humans with the environment we live in. By understanding our impact, we are able to better participate in conservation and be mindful about how we treat our water sources and ecosystems.
