Chapter President: Rick Moses
Area of Interest
The Bow River Chapter focuses primarily on the Bow River and its tributaries, from the Bearspaw Dam downstream to Bassano Dam. Besides the mainstem Bow River, a world-renowned trout fishery flowing through the heart of Calgary, some of the key areas of interest for the Chapter include tributaries such as Fish Creek, Nose Creek, the Lower Elbow River, Highwood River, and Sheep River.
The Bow River Chapter works with Trout Unlimited Canada staff, with local government and industry support, to plan and implement projects including habitat improvement, fish monitoring, education, and advocacy in the Bow River Basin. Recently, the Bow River Chapter has created a special projects committee to identify, plan, and implement Chapter projects and have been very busy. The Bow River Chapters members and volunteers are a dedicated and determined group!
The Bow River Chapter was formed in 1985 by leaders in the Calgary fishing community who were concerned for a sustainable Bow River fishery. The “Blue Ribbon Bow River” was becoming recognized as one of the leading trout fisheries in North America. The pressure on the river’s ecosystem and fish habitat has increased over recent years with the growth of the City of Calgary.
