History of TUC

TUC was founded in Montreal in 1972. Growing out of a response to challenges to freshwater and coldwater fisheries occurring at that time, TUC was based on the model established by Trout Unlimited in the U.S. Our focus on volunteer driven, member based resource conservation and commitment to hands-on activity has been followed ever since.

Over 30 years later, TUC has approximately 4000 members in 33 Chapters across the country. At the Chapter level, members volunteer their time and effort to preserve coldwater habitat within local watersheds. The members interact with people of all ages who then can volunteer to help with any number of local, regional and national initiatives. Where there are a sufficient number of members, Provincial Councils are formed to address issues affecting a broader portion of a particular Province.

TUC's National Office is in Calgary, Alberta. Its full-time staff administers the day-to day business of the entire organization. TUC's direction is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors, made up of representatives from across the country who are committed to TUC's important work.
