Fishermills off-stream wetland.
Fishermill’s off-stream wetland area.
This CCF project involved the creation of three off-line seasonal wetland areas on a 14 acre parcel of land next to Fishermill's Creek. The project had three main goals:

1)  To provide a natural community gathering place for passive recreation;

2)  Improved waterfowl pairing and habitat for aquatic life;

3)  Higher quality habitat in the lands around the wetlands through plantings of native material.

This project is part of a solution to remove the on-line Fishermill’s pond and dam that had warmed up the local coldwater stream to the point where native brook trout disappeared from the downstream reaches. The dam removal restored brook trout habitat through the old dam area and has also extended the brook trout downstream to historical habitat. In order to complete the dam removal a compromise was reached with landowners to create off-channel ecological amenities.
